Consider White Walls in California-Style Homes

dining-room

Painting white walls is one of the top requests we receive from clients looking to achieve this modern California style. The bright white walls not only opens up the space, it also makes it much more inviting for family and guests to enjoy.
For this home remodeling project, we added a classic and elegant white backsplash with white cabinetry to compliment the all white walls.

We worked with the client to achieve this light and airy look and added a few pops of colour with the wood furniture, dining table, and the black island.

Combine a Variety of Textures

Layering different textures is a major element of modern California interior design. With this type of design, it typically includes layering a number of different textures like hard and soft surfaces. The contrast of these two textures helps to create some visual interest in the home.

This custom kitchen renovation struck the perfect balance between a variety of textures. The simple all white aesthetic works well with the warm wood cabinetry and matching furniture. It wasn’t easy for the client to live at home while the construction took place, but we did our best to make the process easy. We achieved this by making sure to show up on time and providing our client with regular updates on their project.

Emphasize Neutrals with Accents

custom-walk-i

Nothing defines California home design like a neutral space with pops of accent colors. To incorporate neutral tones throughout your home, we recommend choosing neutral colors like white, tan, and grey in your space paired with a pop of color.

In this bathroom renovation, the client wanted a pop of colour in the room so we suggested using a combination of marble and navy blue cabinets which worked really well with the few gold accents.

To keep the illusion of a larger ensuite, we kept the walls white and let the pops of colour speak on its own, carefully selecting the colours of each fixture, ensuring the ensuite wouldn’t look closed off.

California Coastal Design with Accents

Incorporating natural materials that are reminiscent of the California Coast is an essential part of this look. There are ways to achieve the California Coastal Design without adding seashells and paintings of the ocean. A more subtle way to create this type of look is to add elements that remind us of the California lifestyle like sandy brown floors and incorporating color to the staging.

Instead of providing fixtures in bold colors, we designed the two tone kitchen in neutral colours, white along the walls, and a gray kitchen island to create contrast. This way the kitchen had some character without looking closed off. By adding pink planters on the kitchen island, it provides a bright pop that embodies California coastal design.

Pro Tip: Choose decor pieces with color, that way you can easily change the look and feel of a room without being permanent
